Viofo A129 Duo Review Facts

One of the last products that you might have considered to be useful for your car is a dashcam, but this could be the difference between you getting approved for insurance payments in a dire incident. And if you’re someone who drives a taxi especially, having a two-way camera could be an even better source of protection.

The Viofo A129 Duo is a dual dash cam that has received rave reviews. It’s not going to break the bank and you get top-notch video quality out of the deal. Plenty of people also liked the fact that it is one of the only cameras on the market that gives you the opportunity to use night video in good quality.

It also comes with a GPS, sensor, and built-in WiFi for added convenience. And as we said, having a two-way dash camera is a smart choice for extra protection and for being able to record all sides of what is going on in your car.

Overall, the reviews for this dash cam were very good, making it perhaps one of the best on the market despite not coming from a well-known brand. So, let’s look at some of its features in-depth so you can see whether or not this is the dashcam for you.

Advanced Features

One of the most advanced features that this dash cam has to offer is parking mode, which means that it will film any movement it detects while your car is parked. The only thing is that you need to get a Viofo hardwire kit in order to activate this feature since the dash cam only operates while your car is on. There are seven different modes for you to choose from with the parking mode, but this is an important feature that will further enhance your safety.

Another thing the Viofo A129 Duo offers is the ability to film at night with more high-quality footage. Not too many dashcams provide the opportunity for your footage to be of the same quality, so this is definitely a plus. And the front and rear cameras both have the same lens, which means that all footage provided by both will be of the same resolution and quality.

It also comes with a feature called a supercapacitor, which means that the camera will remain on for a few seconds after you turn the ignition off for extra filming.

Connection

This camera is not powered using any battery. Instead, it comes with its own connector that you put in the same slot that you’d put a phone charger. Your car needs to be on in order for it to work, essentially, although it does offer the option for parking mode. The connector does come with two slots for USB cords, which means that you can also charge your phone if necessary.

The camera also has a built-in supercapacitor that allows it to remain on for a few seconds after you turn off the ignition for it to film any additional and necessary footage.

The camera does have a built-in WiFi connection too because it gives you the opportunity to send all the footage on the camera to your phone. This is essential in case you need to send the footage to insurance companies. All you have to do is press the button labeled ‘WiFi’ on the front of the dashcam and you’re good to go.

Ease of Use

Not too much has been said regarding how easy this camera is to use, but we can assume that most people did not have problems with it. All the buttons are on the front of the camera and they’re brightly labeled. In addition, you have a manual if something isn’t quite clear. The only thing that some people said was a bit difficult to deal with was the thick cable that is attached to the rear camera.

Video Quality

This dashcam excelled in terms of camera quality. You get 1080 pixels of resolution, and while there are other cameras on the market that offer higher resolution, this certainly is good enough. You will get highly-detailed footage out of the deal that is crucial for your protection. It’s colorful and clear, and since both the front and rear cameras have the same lens, the quality of both is the same.

This is a feature that you are not so likely to find in other dashcams; one side tends to not perform as well as the other. You will be able to clearly read the license plates of other cars around you. And another great feature is that, if you happen to be driving on bumpy roads, the camera has image stabilization, which means that the footage will still come out clear regardless of the conditions you’re driving in.

And as far as video quality went, a lot of people were pleased with the performance of the camera at night. Not too many cameras offer high-quality night videos, but this one seems to be one of the exceptions. Of course, most agreed that it isn’t quite as clear as the day camera, but you will still be able to get a precise picture of your surroundings and the ability to read license plates, signs, and other crucial information.

Since it’s inevitable that you’re going to have to drive at night at some point, you definitely want to make sure that the night camera produces good-quality footage, too.

Field of View

Another important feature that all dash cams need to offer is a wide field of view. What’s the use of having one if it won’t provide you with footage from all around? With this Viofo product, you thankfully won’t have to worry about that.

Both the rear and front cameras have a field of view of 140 degrees, and while there are cameras on the market that offer more, you’re still going to be able to see into the two lanes next to you, what’s going on on the sidewalk, the parking lot, and more. So this is definitely a great advantage that this product has to provide.

Design

The Viofo A129 Duo does not necessarily offer a lot in terms of design, but sometimes less is more. It doesn’t come with too many unnecessary features, which is a major bonus. It includes all the essential pieces that you would look for in a more advanced dashcam, including a built-in GPS, parking mode, WiFi, and more. If you want to be able to use the WiFi in order to download footage to your phone, the only thing that you need to do is push a button that says PiP.

In order to hang this product on your windshield, you essentially allow it to ‘hug’ the screen instead of making it hang down as many other similar products do. This means that the dashcam won’t be too much of a distraction for you as you’re driving. It’s recommended that you connect the USB cables meant for the rear camera and for powering the device to one another before you attach the product to the windshield so you know there will be enough room for you to maneuver these cables. You don’t need to use any sort of suction cup or separate product for hanging this- all that’s necessary are the adhesive pads it comes with.

One thing that may be a downside for some people is that this does not offer a touchscreen, but right below the screen there are several buttons for you to be able to navigate and access the settings, which are all easy to use and figure out.

When it comes to the design, the main area where people had complaints was the side of the rear camera’s cable. It’s extremely thick and makes things more difficult when you want to attach it to the windshield. It’s difficult to hide and maneuver, which can make things harder on you than they need to be. This seems to be one of the only downsides that the Viofo product has, though.

The product also comes with a power adapter that has two USB ports, which will allow you to power your phone and the dashcam at the same time. This device will not be powered by batteries, and it has a supercapacitor that keeps the camera on for several moments after you turn your car off.

Price

One comment that seemed to repeat over and over again across everyone’s reviews was how great the price was for this product. While looking at the retail price of $179.95, you may think that it’s quite expensive, but keep in mind that this Viofo product is a dual style. It is unlikely that you will be able to find a cam that offers both rear and forward-facing features for a similar price, and if you were to purchase two separate cameras, the price would be even higher.

So, this is a two-in-one type of deal and considering all the rave reviews that this product has already, it’s definitely proof that you’re going to get more bang for your buck. And if that wasn’t enough, you will be able to find this product for a bit cheaper than the retail price on websites such as Amazon, where it is currently being offered for $156.88. This isn’t much of a price drop, but the fact that you will be able to find it for cheaper is definitely something that will appeal to a lot of people.

The only thing that you will want to take note of is the fact that you need to purchase the microSD card separately as the device does not come with one.

Bottom Line

When you’re on the road, it’s better to be safe than sorry. And so, when it comes to dual dashcams, it seems like the Viofo brand has been successful with the A129 Duo. This product has received rave reviews from customers, and it seems like this was all for good reasons.

Not many other dashcams on the market offer cameras for both the front and rear, and the ones that do offer this feature tend to be a lot more expensive. No matter whether you’re a taxi driver or you just want that added protection, getting a camera that films the rear is a good choice.

The device also offers plenty of other innovative features, including built-in WiFi for you to be able to send all footage to your phone, the opportunity to get high-quality footage at night, parking mode, a built-in GPS, and more. It even has the ability to sense when your car has been involved in an incident to protect that footage from being overwritten. It has the ability to store 256GB of footage- with the proper microSD card, of course- so that means you can easily have tons of necessary footage on hand. And everything that isn’t so important gets overwritten to save space.

The only real downside seemed to be the thickness of the rear camera cable, but this is definitely not a dealbreaker. You get two cameras for the price of one out of the deal, which you likely won’t be able to find anywhere else on the market. All of these features and more help to make the Viofo A129 a great choice for you to consider for all of your driving needs.
